They’ve tried this before. Like many other former industrial districts in Europe, the Bovisa is trying to go cultural. Their first attempt, the Anteprima Bovisa, failed to move the center of contemporary art to the suburban neighborhood. Since then, the Bovisa has been more successful in attracting culture promoted by institutions. A design school, the Politecnico, and a contemporary art branch of the Triennale have both opened up shop, and to finish the push, the zone has secured the support of this year’s edition of the Salone del Mobile, also called Milan Design Week.
