First part of the interview to Jean Philippe Vassal [1954-], principal of Lacaton & Vassal with Anne Lacaton [1955], founded in 1987.

Vassal is French, but was born in Casablanca [Morocco]. He lived and worked from 1980 to 1985 in Africa as architect and urban planner. Since then, Africa has strongly influenced the work of Lacaton & Vassal.

The question of the money is not to work with less money, it is to do the maximum with the money you have. If you have a lot of money you can do more and more.

For Lacaton & Vassal the architectural potencial of technology lies not in its origins or original definition but in its potencial to be reprogrammed and combined with other things.
