From horse shows to art fairs, from accountant conventions to religious cult ceremonies, the convention center is built to be ready for anything. But this anonymity can be alienating to say the least. In the Fiera Milano, architect Massimiliano Fuksas has tried to do something different, to match the needs of a convention center and its multiple uses but also to lessen the sense of alienation one feels from such non-spaces.
